about

After attending Art school in the UK, I went on to study textile design at Nottingham Trent University. In the course of a 15 year professional career in London, I held various creative positions and in 2001 set up an art & design consultancy that I now run from Amsterdam.

I work mainly with surface, inspired by my surroundings and this has led me to ask questions about the designer’s capacity to comment on their environment. I am passionate about art education and have held the post of Associate Lecturer at the London College of Communication and Medway school of Art and I am now teaching Art & Design in Amsterdam.

In my current work I explore transition through visual immersion in new environments and its relation to my own sense of alienation developing into wonder and then familiarity.

I work with found surfaces to create a visual layered response. The digital and the visceral effect of a tactile and handmade surface contribute to positioning my work as an expression of my desire to connect with new surroundings.

Process is an important focus for me, I select materials that represent meaning beyond their function, such as mending threads traditionally used to repair worn garments. The use of thread and stitch represents my link to my own family connection to the garment trade in Europe, a legacy that has influenced my work ethic and creative approach.
